1 – Presentation and role in the project
Gölcük Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School is one of the largest vocational high schools in Kocaeli/TÜRKİYE. Our school is located in the heart of the industry and is surrounded not only with national and international factories such as, Ford, Hyundai, Toyota, Lassa, Goodyear, and Pirelli but also with with public and private Shipyards. It is the largest school which provides internships and employment to its students and trainees. It is also one of the most important institution in the region meeting the gap of intermediate staff required for the labour market.
There are 968 formal and 332 non-formal, totally 1300 students, 127 teachers, 1 school principal,6 deputy principals, 3 officers, 3 assistant staffs in our school.
There are also 30 classrooms, 4 laboratories for Information Technologies Department, 8 laborataries for Electric-electronic Technologies Department, 4 workplaces for Marine Enginnering Management Department, 4 laboratories for Marine Transportation Management, 6 laboratories for Ship building Department, 5 laboratories for Metal Technologies Department, 8 laboratories Machine Technologies Department, 5 laboratories for furniture and interior design Technologies.
Each scope is also active as vocational distance education high school, our school provides vocational training for private sector as UME centre and it provides Net proficiency training for students and trainees as CISCO Networking Academy.
Our school is the only school that has Shipbuilding Department in this region. Gölcük shipyard linked to Gölcük Fleet Command employs a large amount of its workers from our school. Many students that we send to the companies realise their internship in the shipyards in Gölcük area.
All graduates are awarded with Europass showing their education outputs in the department they study.
In the Department of Marine Transportation Management, existing in the complex of our school, there are Bridge Liquided Cargo handling Simulator, electronic air Simulator, life saving appliances platform, fire training Simulator.
Moreover, our institution is the only school that is able to supply 32 different theoretical and practical education and certificates (like; life saving appliances, personal survival techniques at sea, international ship and port security, advanced fire training, engine resources management, engine watch keeping certificate, elementary first aid, personal safety and social responsibility, automatic radar plotting aid certificate(ARPA) deck watch keeping certificate, bridge resources management Electronic chart displaying information system –ECDIS- trainings) in the departments of marine engineering and management and department of marine transportation management.
Our school is labelled with 2019 Erasmus + Vocational Education Student and Personal Mobility Acreditation certificate(VET Mobility Charter) by Turkish National Agency which means we have proved that we meet the general standarts of quality in EU Education and Youth programmes.
2 – Aims and activities of the organization
Our school internationalization and quality strategy is to increase our education quality, to go international with our institution and students, and to get integrated into equivalent institutions by applying international quality standards.
Gölcük Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School within all international collaborations aims to represent our country in the best way, to graduate “world citizens” who can be successful both in a multicultural environment and in the global economy, to increase academic and institutional collaborations and to become a world school, to cooperate with schools in the European Union countries in order to improve the quality of education, on-site education, cultural sharing, innovation transfer, to increase students’ awareness of European citizenship, sharing good practices of teachers and gaining experience abroad to optimize their language proficiency considering that the students of the maritime area within their body to take part in international companies after graduation, to contribute to Turkey’s vocational education system’s better recognition in Europe, to make case studies by applying ECVET system appropirately, to become a member of international networks, to establish international classes by cooperating with institutions in different countries and International platforms and to represent our country in the best way in international platforms.
Having composed and started implementing the EU project UMTMS -Using The Multipurpose Tasks in Maritime Simmulation- of which the main purpose is to create a remote simmulator in maritime we tried to bring a new meaning to VET education both for students and trainers and try to enbroaden the ways of maintanence with sustainable solutions in the scope. As we have started to implement the project we’ve become more aware about the gaps in the sector and how to tackle the challenges. Thus we have decided that we can contribute to the WP4 of the TecoNAUT project “Development of Skill Training for Skills Gap in the Nutical Industry” by cooperating in the research of existing potencial deep tech material, providing data in the research of green skills gaps in terms of Türkiye.
Furthermore our School is the only VET school with a ship building scope in the region linked to Gölcük Shipyard located in the Naval Base in Gölcük. Gölcük Fleet Command which employs a large ammount of its interns and workers from our school. These features make our school a perfect spot for piloting which is one of the tasks in WP4.
We’re also going to collaborate with SOIB in WP5“ Transfer of Knowledge from Companies Trainers and Professors to VET” designing the program in line with WP4. Cooperating in the tasks of developing the Teachers’ handbook, Transferring of practical knowledge HE prof to VET, Transferring Practical Experiences to Online Education and providing translations.
3 – Value of the TecoNaut project
As a VET institution and provider we’re glad to be a part of this project via which we aim to build a sustainable greener future by composing and conducting green policies for maritime learners in VET.
With the help of the TecoNAUT Project the unemployment rate with skilful workers who knows the importance of greener policies in the ship building sector will be increased. This achievement will also contribute to the labour market in need to green labour and climate. We also believe that the project will also encourage and promote cooperation between participating organizations & sectoral partners. Partner Institutions which come together for building up a greener future also will be able to meet sectoral expectations in terms of VET.
