Sea Teach

1 – Brief description of your organisation and your main responsibility in the project

Sea Teach is a social enterprise specialised in the Maritime and Youth sectors, also a recognized training centre for motorcruising and powerboating.

Sea Teach was established in 1999 by its principal Michael John and fellow director Silja Teege. It has since then operated from its fully equipped premises in the Marina of Cala D’or, Mallorca.

Sea Teach has a multidisciplinary team with expertise in Maritime topics, such as ocean literacy, environmental protection, development and delivery of nautical courses.

The team also specialises in mentorings and social inclusion approaches towards the blue economy sectors. They are passionate about improving education and work conditions in the maritime sector, for disadvantaged youth and in the tourism industry.

With the support of EU funding and our European partners we have developed innovative education systems and tools that help qualification recognition, mobility and learning:

  • Maritime Projects: She4sea, Next BlueGeneration, Blue Generarion, We are Blue Schools, Environaut, DT4SeaSchools and more.
  • Youth and social Projects: Interview Champ, Valits 2.0, ET-NEETs
  • Tourism and Digital Projects: Valits, DigiCults, Save, ADE

Sea Teach is also working as a Research Institution, Think Tank and Consultancy company on maritime topics and has undertaken studies and reports on behalf of the DG Mare, the European Boating Industry, boot Düsseldorf and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

The team of Sea Teach is commited with the protection of the marine environment. It’s commitment is part of the day to day work, but also out of office hours. The team started the NGO “Clean Boating” which aims at reducing the plastic litter from the sea by involving the nautical sector. The team does also voluntary work and is part of relevant EU-networks in the topic of marine education and ocean conservation.

2 – Brief words about why you think this project is necessary

This project is necessary because the nautical industry has been evolving and will evolve more and more and we have been able to experience within Sea Teach and working with other projects related to the sustainable blue economy that we still have a lot to do with the nautical sector, always talking about improving it and making it more and more sustainable.  As the main objective of the project is to make the nautical industry sector more green or sustainable this project is necessary to make the shipbuilding sector become an example of good practices and to achieve a sustainable change through education and training of new generations and workers currently in the sector.
