1 – Brief description of your organisation and your main responsibility in the project
The Public Employment Service of the Balearic Islands (SOIB) is an autonomous body (established through Law 7/2000, of June 15) whose main purpose is to plan, manage, and coordinate active employment policies. It has the assigned functions of informing, guiding, and carrying out job intermediation in the labour market, promoting employment in all its aspects, and developing vocational training. Organically dependent on the Balearic Islands Council of Business, Employment, and Energy.
Additionally, SOIB has a series of services that depend on it, among which we can find the SOIB – Vocational Education and Training (VET) Center de la Mar, which offers occupational training programmes to both young students and adults who search to improves their employability; and the Nautical National Reference Centre, whose aim is to carry out innovative and experimental actions to make vocational training more competitive and able to respond to the needs of the always changing labour market in the nautical field. Both are located in Menorca, and will be actively involved in the project.
SOIB will be in charge of leading the work package 4, Development of skills for skill gaps in the nautical industry. The main objective is to design and develop a course for VET education on the sourcing, use, application and end of life of deep-tech materials in line with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) through learning outcomes.
SOIB will also be collaborating in other work packages, contributing with its experience on occupational training programmes and vocational training.

SOIB, as part of the Government of the Balearic Islands, is committed to promoting training and employment, as well as sustainable growth and fostering innovation in all sectors.
The nautical industry has undergone significant transformation in recent years, driven by innovation and the search for more environmentally friendly solutions.
Now more than ever, it is essential to address sustainability in the nautical sector. Our crystal-clear waters, beaches, and marine environments are a heritage that we must preserve for future generations. Sustainability is not just a buzzword; it is a commitment to social and environmental responsibility, and it is an urgent need in the nautical sector. Training people in deep tech materials will ensure a supply of skilled professionals and enables them to contribute to efforts aimed at addressing these challenges, leading to a more sustainable and secure future for society.
The project also provides a unique space for collaboration and the exchange of ideas among trainers, students, and companies. The synergy generated is essential for driving the nautical sector towards a more promising and sustainable future.
SOIB hopes that we can all make the most of this opportunity to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the progress of our sector and the well-being of our environment, and is sure it will take us one step closer to a more sustainable and exciting nautical future.
