1 – Brief description of your organisation and your main responsibility in the project
Founded in 2013 by master boatbuilder Friedrich J. Deimann, GREENBOATS is dedicated to revolutionizing the composite industry using Natural Fibre Composites (NFCs). With over a decade of experience, GREENBOATS has demonstrated the potential of NFCs.
Originally focused on marine craftsmanship, GREENBOATS underwent a significant transformation in 2018 with the addition of Jan Paul Schirmer, shifting towards a technology-oriented approach. Today, GREENBOATS leads the way in sustainable solutions across various high-tech sectors such as aerospace, rail transport, wind energy, and automotive.
The company’s accolades include prestigious recognitions like the Bremer Umweltpreis, Biocomposites Award, Ocean Tribute Award, and the World Sailing Sustainability Award. In 2023, GREENBOATS forged a landmark partnership with Groupe Depestele, Europe’s top private flax producer, enhancing its supply chain and global presence.
Moreover, we have launched platforms like “Circular Structures” to provide semi-finished products that promote sustainability, such as reinforcement fabrics and laminated skins. Through these initiatives, we aim to reshape the boat-building industry towards a more sustainable future, where companies compete on the environmental footprint of their products and services.
GREENBOATS prides itself on its versatile and highly capable team, comprising professionals with diverse expertise. Their holistic approach to project development, from conceptualization to manufacturing, ensures efficiency and quality. Engineers with roots in traditional boatbuilding merge practical knowledge with technical expertise, while seasoned professionals bring decades of industry experience.
The company also invests in nurturing young talent, providing opportunities for apprentices and recent graduates to grow within the company. GREENBOATS is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and research to pioneer groundbreaking products and secure vital R&D grants, driving forward its journey towards sustainability and innovation.
Furthermore, GREENBOATS will serve as the lead institution in WP6 of the project, tasked with developing a training program for higher education students in eco boat building companies. Our main responsibility within the project is to design and implement this program, focusing on the following objectives:
- Developing a comprehensive curriculum covering the latest technologies and practices in eco-friendly boat building.
- Integrating hands-on learning methods to equip students with practical skills and knowledge.
- Collaborating with industry partners to ensure the program meets current market demands.
- Providing resources and support to enable students to deepen their skills and understanding of eco-boat-building.
Through this initiative, we aim to nurture the next generation of professionals in the eco-boat-building sector, contributing to a sustainable future for the industry.
2 – Brief words about why you think this project is necessary
The TEcoNaut project holds significant importance for GREENBOATS and the wider nautical industry. As advocates for sustainable boat building, we acknowledge the pressing need for a skilled workforce proficient in sustainable materials and deep-tech composites.
This initiative is crucial for equipping workers with the skills to adapt to the industry’s evolving landscape. The project’s emphasis on sustainability aligns with our values, and we are committed to contributing to its success. In conclusion, the TEcoNaut project plays a vital role in driving sustainability in boat building, and GREENBOATS is dedicated to collaborating for a greener future in the industry.
